Leadership: focus on workplace harmony

In 1998 I began working as a junior programmer at PC World Communications Inc., in San Francisco, California. Eighteen months later I became the director of application development. The difficulties and successes of that position are described by some of my former colleagues on my testimonials page.

I had many opportunities to build my communication skills within common management contexts—meeting facilitation and participation, performance reviews, interviewing for new staff, and resolving workplace conflicts.

I also made a study of the possibilities and limitations of email communication, and developed a set of communication guidelines to be used by my department. I built on these communication guidelines to create the workplace-related coaching and training materials I now use.
